Substance Misuse

The Substance Misuse Service has a female and male Substance Misuse Worker available to help members of the community who think they may have a problem with Substance Misuse.

What does the Substance Misuse Worker do?

  • Provide counselling for substance misuse issues (legal & illegal drugs)
  • Provide support and advocacy for clients
  • Referral to appropriate agencies
  • Provide community education (eg at school)
  • Establish community development programs and activities

What issues do Substance Misuse Workers deal with?

  • With the full range of problems related to both legal and illegal drugs
  • Helping people access detox programs and rehabilitation facilities and offer ongoing support

What other organisations do Substance Misuse Workers work with?

They deal with a wide range of organisations in order to help their clients. These include:

  • Detox providers
  • Rehabilitation providers
  • Refuges/ACT housing
  • Correctional facilities

The Substance Misuse Workers also work closely with other Winnunga staff to ensure that the clients are helped as the whole person and not just focusing on their substance misuse problem.

What about confidentiality?

Winnunga has a strict protocol on privacy and confidentiality and this is followed by all staff.
